1 - Stop themselves. It's sad, but most people never do anything worthwhile. People have dreams and the real tragedy is they never take steps towards them. If you take steps towards a goal, and as you learn to discover it is just not for you, that is huge progress. Now, you're freed up to dream again!
2 - Save money, and lose value. Because most people aren't rich, they look for ways to pursue their dreams and get free advice from anybody who's willing to give it. A friend of Darren’s showed him her “one-sheet" and he flipped out. She was so excited because she got help from someone. After a few questions, Darren found out that the person who helped her was a speaker who was barely getting booked herself. Augh! True value will yield dividends, not cost money. Going cheap will cost you!
If you were going to get major surgery, would you go to the cheapest doctor? (Just a bonus hint – graphic designers make things look pretty. “Copy” is what sells.)
3 - Have no plan. Most people just getting started in the speaking business have no plan. Many speakers who have been around for years have no plan either. How can you truly get started without one? The worse tragedy, though, is working really hard in the wrong direction. Waste! Where do you get direction?
